Amir SagieCONGREGATION TIFERETH ISRAEL WOULD LIKE TO INVITE YOU TO A CONVERSATION WITH AMIR SAGIE, DEPUTY CONSUL GENERAL OF ISRAEL IN NEW YORK, WHICH WILL TAKE PLACE ON JULY 4TH FROM 4:00-5:00PM AT OUR SYNAGOGUE.
On July 4th we commemorate the adoption of the Declaration of Independence which is at once the nation’s most cherished symbol of liberty. This declaration, together with constitutional protections for minorities, including freedom of religion and the separation of church and state, have been principles that have enabled Jewish life to flourish in this country.
This year, the 4th of July falls on the 17th of Tammuz, which begins the three-week period before the 9th of Av, commemorating the destruction of the holy Temples in Jerusalem.
As we celebrate our nation, this coming weekend, we must hold close to our heart what it has meant to us as Jews, and to the State of Israel. It is important to do what we can to continue strengthening the special and close relationship between the United States and Israel, which not only dates back to Israel’s founding in 1948; but is also based upon shared democratic values.
Amir Sagie, coordinates the political work of Israel’s largest mission in the world, developing relations with national, state and local officials in the tri-state area. He maintains regular contact with experts involved in major foreign policy and strategic issues at think tanks and universities across the region. He also acts as the liaison for the Foreign Ministry with the national and local leadership of the Jewish Community based in New York. In addition, he coordinates interfaith dialogue and outreach nationally for the Foreign Ministry and its missions in the US.
