Expert Quilter Shows How Those Gorgeous Quilts Are Created

Hello Lunch and Learners. Be sure to join us on Monday, when thanks to our resident expert quilter, Roberta Garris, we will learn how some fabric and a needle and thread — in the right hands — can create magnificent quilts. Roberta, a member of three quilting guilds, promises to let us in on her techniques, gleaned from 13 years of dedication to the craft. She will also show us some of the quilts she uses in her own home.

In her presentation, “Portrait of a Quilter,” Roberta will talk about how she fell in love with quilting, and how you can get started on creating your own masterpieces.

Rabbi Gadi Begins A Seven-Week, High Holidays Preparation Series

Each Thursday, from now until Rosh Hashanah, Rabbi Gadi will look at a different aspect of the High Holidays. Coincidentally, the first session falls on Tisha B’Av, a fast day, so Lunch and Learn is, in fact, No-Lunch and Learn next week.. But leave it to Rabbi Gadi to make the sacrifice worthwhile as he talks about fasting as a spiritual tool.

Sign into Zoom at 12 o’clock every Monday and Thursday. Have lunch (not next Thursday) with shul friends, and learn a little, followed by a Q&A and some lively discussion. Download Zoom, visit www.tiferethisraelgreenport.org, and click on “go to meeting,” Follow the prompts, and type in the code (same as for services). That’s all there is to it.

Zoom at noon for ‘Lunch and Learn.’
