The Book Circle will meet online on Wednesday, April 22, at 12 p.m., to review the April selection, The Convert, by Stefan Hartmans. This is a work of fiction based on facts excerpted from fragments of the Cairo Genizah, a repository of more than 300,000 manuscripts and documents that had been stored in the upper chamber of a synagogue in Old Cairo. Hartmans tells the story of star-crossed lovers, forced to flee their village in order to be together. The novel recreates a chaotic world of love and hate and the anti-Semitism that persists a millennium later.
