The mission of Congregation Tifereth Israel is to promote spirituality in an inclusive Jewish community and build friendship with people of all faiths.

Our goal is to become a center for culture and education in a fully gender-egalitarian and inclusive community, while promoting Jewish values and customs in the synagogue and in the environment.

Beyond our religious services, creativity is encouraged through the inclusion of music, art, cooking, gardening, quilt-making, and other personal expressions of the inner spirit.

Many of our congregants are avid gardeners, and in an effort to be the “green” synagogue of Greenport, we are dedicated to practicing and promoting environmental stewardship. The native trees and gardens planted on the synagogue grounds provide food and shelter for birds and other wildlife. We are committed to recycling, using energy saving products and green cleaning solutions, and otherwise reducing our ecological footprint.

Our synagogue is a regular supporter of the Community Action Southold Town (CAST), a not-for-profit organization that helps low income residents meet their basic needs in the areas of nutrition, employment, energy, housing, and education.

At Congregation Tifereth Israel, we strive to embody the best of what it means to practice an age-old religion in the contemporary world.
