Gulo Swan Offers Observations and Impressions; Rabbi Gadi To Moderate
On Monday, June 6, Lunch and Learn will connect live to Tbilisi, Georgia, in the Caucasus region of Eurasia, for a discussion about Ukraine and the people there displaced by war.
Rabbi Gadi will moderate a discussion with Gulo Swan, known to many of our congregants through her participation in Rabbi Gadi’s Monday afternoon parsha study group when she and her late husband, Arthur Swan, lived here. The couple relocated to Gulo’s native Georgia in 2014, and Gulo continued to participate in the weekly Torah study class by phone.
In a message accepting the invitation to talk about Ukraine, a neighboring country, Gulo told Lunch and Learn in Georgia, we try to support Ukraine and provide basic needs to the people who have reached her country. “We can understand their condition and feel the same as we had in 2008, when Russia began occupation of our territories,” she said, noting that she is happy to express her thoughts and feelings about what she has observed and experienced. Gulo will also share with us how the nearness to the war zone affects her country, the people there, and her family.
The June 6 Lunch and Learn program is an opportunity to gain insights about the people and culture of Ukraine, well beyond the daily newscasts that often focus only on numbers who have perished.
