Lunch and Learn – Livin’ The Dream For 3,600 Nautical Miles
Hello, Lunch and Learners. Here’s a preview of what’s on tap for our Zoom at noon program next week. We hope you were able to Zoom at noon on Monday for shul member Saul Rosenstreich’s insightful look at making art and the creative process. Rabbi Gadi followed up on the art theme on Thursday with a discussion about God, the constant artist.

Coming up this Monday, June 29, shul members Nancy and Dan Torchio will talk about “Livin’ the Dream,” their 6-month sailing adventure aboard the Rhapsody, a 47-foot cutter-rigged Passport sailing vessel. In all, they voyaged more than 3,600 nautical miles from Greenport harbor, on Nov. 20, 2019, to Bermuda, San Juan, Culebra, St. John, and St. Croix, returning on May 28, 2020. Learn what it takes to provision, maintain and operate a cruising sailboat, including sharing excerpts from the ship’s log and Nancy’s perspective as first mate.
On Thursday, July 2, Rabbi Gadi will follow up on the sailing theme with a view of actual Jewish laws on how to maintain Jewish life in unusual circumstances, even on a boat.

Lunch and Learn – On Art: Is It Ever Too Late To Learn To Draw?
Hello, Lunch and Learners. Here’s a preview of what’s on tap for our Zoom at noon program next week. We hope you were able to Zoom at noon on Monday for a fun session with Adrianne Greenberg, who got us out of our chairs and moving. On Thursday, Rabbi Gadi picked up on the theme with a Biblical view of good health.
Coming up this Monday, June 22, is a session about art: Can you draw? Do you want to draw? Is it too late to learn to draw? Join Saul Rosenstreich as he addresses the topic “Can Anybody Learn to Draw — and Should They?” Dr. Rosenstreich pursued these questions after a 30-year career in medicine. He looks forward to a spirited Lunch and Learn discussion about an interest that has been an important part of his life, he said.
On Thursday, June 25, Rabbi Gadi will follow up on the art theme with a session titled “God, the Constant Artist.” As the Rabbi explained, “When we say ‘Amen,’ God is inviting us to be His co-creators, co-artists.”

Lunch And Learn – Stretching Without Kvetching
OK, Lunch and Learners, Time To Get Moving…
Hello, Lunch and Learners. Here’s a preview of what’s on tap for our Zoom at noon program next week. We hope you were able to Zoom at noon on Monday for a dynamic session with Congresswoman Elizabeth Holtzman talking about today’s political scene. On Thursday, Rabbi Gadi picked up on the theme with the politics of spirituality. The duo got us thinking, that’s for sure.
Coming up this Monday, June 15, it’s shape-up time, folks. No more lollygagging in front of the computer screen or lazing on the deck with a good book. Nope, it’s up-and-at-‘em time with Adrianne Greenberg, who will lead us in gentle stretching and strengthening. Join us as we move our rusty body parts. And there’s more. Not only will you get your tuchas out of the chair, you will stretch and strengthen in Yiddish. Oy vey, leave it to Adrianne to come up with that… She calls it “Stretching Without Kvetching.”
On Thursday, June 18, Rabbi Gadi will follow up on Biblical references to keeping the body healthy. “The body is our temple,” he said.

She was also the first woman to serve as District Attorney of Kings County (1982-1989), and also the first woman to hold the office of New York City Comptroller (1990-1993). Ms. Holtzman is the author of three books, most recently her highly praised account of “The Case For Impeaching Trump.”

Join ‘Lunch and Learn’ To Find Out What To Do With All That Hair
Hello, Lunch and Learners. Here’s a preview of what’s on tap for the 7th week of our Zoom at noon program. We hope you were able to Zoom at noon on Monday for a delightful sing-along with Cantor Melissa Berman, who led us in songs, spirituals and rounds to celebrate Memorial Day. On Thursday, Rabbi Gadi followed up with insights into the memorial customs and rituals in Judaism — why we do what we do.
Coming up this Monday, June 1, is a session we’ll call “Hairy Business,” to be led by Ladan Shalom-Murray, a hair stylist, corrective colorist, and founder of the fashionable Paul Izak Salon and Day Spa, who will help us deal with all of that hair. For months, we have been social distancing, sheltering in place, and growing hair. We need help. Ladan to the rescue.
On Thursday, June 4, Rabbi Gadi will follow up on the hair theme with a session titled “From Samson to Absalom.” Samson’s long hair, as we know, endowed him with great strength, whereas Absalom’s bestowed great beauty. What do we learn from that?
