“Piglet noticed that even though he had a Very Small Heart, it could hold a rather large amount of Gratitude.” —A. A. Milne
I cannot estimate the size of my heart, but I think, unlike Piglet’s, it must be voluminous to hold all the gratitude I want to express to members of this congregation — and beyond — for supporting our journal, our shul and, yes, supporting me as this year’s journal honoree.
Thank you for your many kind thoughts and messages. I will try to live up them.

Letter from Cathy Demeroto
Dear Members of Congregation Tifereth Israel,
Community Action Southold Town, Inc. (CAST) would like to thank Congregation Tifereth Israel for its generous support over the past year. As you are well aware, the COVID-19 health and economic crisis was very challenging, and people of color, low-income families, and rural communities were hit the hardest. CAST could not have met the unprecedented need without the support of the local community, including Congregation Tifereth Israel.
We want to acknowledge all that you have done to help CAST and our neighbors in need. You have provided:
- 240 whole chickens
- Diapers in all sizes
- Tomato and herb plants for clients to grow at home
- Personal care items for men and women
- Fresh vegetables and herbs from the Common Ground Garden
Your compassion and kindness have improved the daily lives of our most vulnerable community members by helping to ensure that their basic needs are met. Your generosity helped strengthen the safety net that so many relied upon during the global pandemic, and that many continue to need as they struggle to make ends meet. A community is stronger when all members are healthy and thriving.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Cathy Demeroto

Mens’ Club Invite
With the gradual return to “normalcy”, the Mens’ Club committee has been working to revitalize the long held traditions of our organization.
However, before all else, we would like to extend our most heartfelt thanks to Micah Kaplan, M.D. for his dedication, years of service as President, and commitment to our Club and Congregation. We are indebted to you and your guidance.
We are having our first meeting of this year on Tuesday, May, 25, at 4:00 PM. Because of ongoing social distancing directives, this meeting will be held through the Temple’s ZOOM account. Just go to the Tifereth Israel website, click on the “Shabbat Services or a Meeting Online link. Enter the code (same as for services) and you will be admitted.
Our agenda will include nominating and voting for Club Officers, discussion of proposed future events, and just sharing our Brotherhood.
I hope to see you at our meeting. Please feel free to contact me either by phone or email, if you have any questions.
