Shul News & Notes
Tikkun Olam Group Thanks Members And Friends For Their Generosity
Once again, our shul has shown its generous spirit by filling the big red barrel with toys and games and fun crafts for kids. All was delivered to CAST in time for gift-giving and fun times for kids at Christmas.
CAST clients were most grateful, said Veronica Kaliski, chair of the Tikkun Olam committee at our shul, the group that responds to those in need on behalf of the shul. Among other initiatives, the group sets up the big red barrel for collections of cans of food, personal items, school supplies and the December Holiday Toy Drive. Beneficiaries of the group’s efforts are charities in our community, including CAST, John’s Place, and others as the need becomes apparent. The group also maintains garden beds at Common Ground, and donates the produce and herbs to CAST’s food pantry, which is filled with a storehouse of merchandise and fresh veggies. In addition, the group purchases whole chickens ready for roasting, for CAST clients.
Thank you to all who contributed this year.

Book Circle Explores Drama Surrounding John Singer-Sargent’s Portraits Of The Wertheimer Family
The Book Circle will meet on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2025, at 3:30 p.m., on Zoom to discuss Jean Strouse’s A Family Romance.
The story captures the drama, mystery and intrigue surrounding John Singer Sargent’s 12 portraits of the Wertheimer family. Asher Wertheimer, an eminent London art dealer bequeathed the portraits to the National Gallery in London, a controversial gift that would see a family of Jews appearing alongside the Anglo-Saxon aristocrats painted by earlier masters.
For more information about the Book Circle and its selection, email ctigreenport.org and leave a message for Susan Rosenstreich, coordinator of the group.

The Big Red Barrel On The Kitchen Ramp Awaits Your Contributions
Once again this year, our shul is joining our local North Fork venues that are collecting toys for children of CAST clients. Help make the season brighter for these children by placing unwrapped toys in the big red barrel at the top of the ramp by the kitchen door.
The Holiday Toy Drive opened on Nov. 18 and will run through Dec. 16.
The shul’s Tikkun Olam group is spearheading the drive for our shul. Let’s fill that barrel to overflowing. The kids say thank you.
