A Big ‘Thank You’ To Our Lunch and Learn Presenters
‘Lunch and Learn’ Wants You
Lunch and Learn is breathlessly trying to keep up with the talents, services, interests, hobbies, ideas, exploits, adventures and passions of our members — and even our members’ children. Our shul’s Lunch and Learn program debuted on Zoom, at noon, on Monday, April 20, 2020, when Ron Rothman talked to us about his grandfather’s friendship with Albert Einstein. We haven’t missed a Monday since. Whew!
But we may have missed some of the talents, services, interests, hobbies, ideas, exploits, adventures and passions of our members. So, we’re asking all of you with talents, services, interests, ideas, exploits, adventures and passions to please get in touch with Sara Bloom, the Sol Hurok of our shul’s Lunch and Learn program so that your talents, services, interests, ideas, exploits, adventures and passions can be shared with our Lunch and Learn audience.
Also, it has been suggested that we do a Lunch and Learn on this topic: second careers, second acts. Have you retired from your “day job” and moved on to something new? Maybe a new job, a new hobby, back to school, something that brings you joy. Lunch and Learn would like to hear from you.
Please respond to Sara Bloom: sbblazer@hotmail.com.
Lunch and Learn: Edith (Didi) Goldenhar “Return to Calais”
Monday, April 26
In May 1940, the Nazis invaded Belgium and Paulette Szafran, age 12, and her family fled Brussels and the Nazi threat. Paulette’s wartime diary was the impetus for her daughter, Edith, to document her mother’s early experience. She drew on historical footage and her mother’s vividly-written diary to produce a short but compelling video of Paulette’s experience as a refugee, who with her family joined thousands on the roads of northern France, desperately trying to reach Calais, which was still free. “Return to Calais,” an award-winning documentary, conveys a message of courage in the face of evil and the power of hope.
Edith (Didi) Goldenhar is a writer and editor and for 18 years was an active member of our shul. Please join Lunch and Learn as we welcome Didi home, watch the video she produced, and share this inspiring mother-daughter story.

Graham Diamond said. Zoom at noon for this fascinating account of one man’s story of survival,

Lunch And Learn – Dede Whitsit: International Dog Shows
Monday, April 5
In 1983, shul member Diana (Dede) Whitsit bought a Pug puppy. The breeder wanted the dog to be shown, as he was a particularly good representative of the breed. The Pug became a Champion, and Dede added a new facet to her travel agency — foreign dog shows and 30 years of taking exhibitors and their dogs to shows all over the world, including the World Dog Show, the most important foreign dog show each year.
Join Dede at Lunch and Learn this Monday for an eye-opening look at these international competitions, and what judges see when they check out our four-legged pals.
