Shul Opened Friday, August 6; Return Welcomed With Tears Of Joy
Advance Proof of Covid Vaccination and Masks Required
On Friday, August 6, the shul held its first in-person service since the synagogue suspended worship in the sanctuary in March 2020, more than a year ago. Some attended the Shabbat services in person, others streamed simultaneously via Zoom.
The return to the sanctuary was joyous for all and teary for some, who were moved by the spirituality of the room, the resonance of the rabbi’s singing voice, and worshipping with fellow congregants rather than singularly in front of a computer screen.
Simultaneous Shabbat services and High Holiday services will continue to be offered, but keep in mind that in-person services and events on the property require proof of vaccination in advance, and masks. Here is how to provide proof of vaccination.
- Email a photocopy of your vaccination card or Excelsior Pass to our office assistant, Andrea Blaga, at ctigreenport@gmail.com/.
- Andrea will keep a master list of congregants eligible to attend all Shabbat services and events within our synagogue building and on synagogue property.
- You need to provide proof of vaccination only once.
- The shul will contact those without email.
Congregants Traditionally Contribute Funds To The Shul At Yom Kippur Culture Of Giving Foretells A Bold Future
When the first “Star Trek” episode debuted on TV on Sept. 8, 1966, a disembodied voice proclaimed the mission with a now-iconic phrase, “to boldly go where no man has gone before”… Language purists raged against the split infinitive, and feminists against the gender-specific, yet the series flourished on television, on film, and through multiple captains of the Starship Enterprise and its descendants.
Similarly, our shul has flourished for more than a century, built on a mission to boldly go where Jews had not settled before, and to establish a spiritual home for them on the North Fork of Long Island. Like the Enterprise, whose initial model rattled the crew into space, our shul began as a simple prayer sanctuary around which we have a building that now serves a large population of Jews as well as our North Fork neighbors and visitors, all under the leadership of our own perceptive captains — the presidents and directors who, through 120 years, have carried forward the vision of the founders.
A bold future
In preparation for the upcoming High Holy Days this year, we will look inward and reflect on who we are and what we can be. And as we return to our newly-reopened synagogue building this season, let us look at what we have and reflect on what more we can do. To that end, we ask that you consider making a traditional Yom Kippur contribution to our shul — to be a part of the bold vision for a bold future that will serve you, your children, and the generations to come. The shul’s High Holiday Matching Gift Campaign is the pathway to the future — a bold future.
The moment you sign your name, you can stand proudly with the legions that came before you, those visionaries who foresaw what we have today. Help us pave the way to those who will call you a visionary — for stepping up to ensure a bold future for our spiritual home, its mission, and the Jewish families to come.
Please send your check for the High Holidays Matching Gift Campaign to Congregation Tifereth Israel, P.O. For safeguarding the longevity of our spiritual home, the shul family thanks you.
2021 High Holiday Matching Gift Campaign
The time is now. As we approach 5782 we are going for a break-the-glass moment to raise $50,000 and surpass last years unprecedented support for the High Holiday Matching Gift Campaign.
We are on our way. A core group of shul members have joined together as underwriters and we have already raised $25,000. Those funds will be used to match your donation. Can we count on you?
Please be as generous as you can. Every dollar you donate now and through the holidays will be matched 1:1 by the underwriters. I am sure you will agree that doubling your donation is a great investment in our shul.
We have had an extraordinary year and we can celebrate our successes. As the pandemic raged we offered 52 weeks of award winning Lunch & Learn programs, 52 weeks of Jewish history, a minyan and more every Shabbat, and, for your entertainment 52 weeks of Shul Schmooze. Now we have hybrid services…in person and on Zoom.
With your support we will continue to expand our programs, increase our membership and strengthen our shul family.
We can do this! DONATE NOW To 2021 High Holiday Matching Gift Campaign or send check to:
